A senior IAS officer accused in cases involving not only corruption
but even anti-national activities is heading three important
departments in UP. The cases related to his tenure at the Centre are
being investigated by the CBI which has lodged an FIR against him.
The 1983 batch officer Sadakant is at present principal secretary of
information, housing and urban planning, and child development and
nutrition departments.
RTI activist Urvashi Sharma has obtained the information regarding his
criminal cases from the Union home ministry. She has written to chief
minister Akhilesh Yadav demanding that the IAS officer be suspended
immediately in view of the serious charges pending against him.
According to the reply from the MHA, Sadakant was accused of leaking
confidential information related to the country's security to private
companies for his own vested interests. The Centre, in fact,
prematurely repatriated Sadakant to Uttar Pradesh for this reason.
Urvashi said the Director (A&V) Vigilance cell and CPIO, MHA, had
informed her that the CBI enquiry against Sadakant was still pending.
However, information related to the MHA sanction to CBI to prosecute
Sadakant and other documents related to the officer's alleged
corruption and anti-national activities have not been provided as the
CPIO has stated that providing the information would impede the
process of ongoing investigation, the RTI activist said.
